Provence…A few ideas

Nestled in the hills, a short drive North West of Cannes and approx. 45mins – 1hr from Nice Airport lies the small mediterranean town of Seillans. It provides a perfect base to see the best of what the Provence region has to offer.

First things first, get a villa…with a pool! While we are huge hotel fans this allows you a base to see everything from, your own space to relax and if traveling with friends a place to let your hair down. Some great villas can be found in the area in towns including Seillans, Montoroux and Callians.

Verdon is a must see. Head over to the north side of the Gorge and drive the hillside route which provides a stunning view over and along the length of the river. Stop at one of the remote beaches and hire a canoe, then paddle back up the gorge to get the best view imaginable.

If you are a wine fan head to picturesque hillside town of Seillans one afternoon. Make your first stop Val d’Iris and sample some of their delicious and award winning Vin Rouges. The whites and rose’s here are okay but the reds are something to write home about. Then when the truck is stocked head just across the road to Chateaux des Selves to stock up on the Rose. Both vineyards offer something very different but both an authentic and tasty experience.

If you are a cycling fan you are not far from Mt. Ventoux here either so if you think of yourself as a bit of a Froome then head on down and take the mountain climb challenge. Don’t say we didn’t warn you, this is not for the feint hearted.

The cities of Nice, Cannes and Saint Tropez are not far (about 1-1.5hrs drive) so if you fancy a break from the hills and want a night on the glitzy tiles then look no where else. However, a handful of great restaurants can also be found back in the region, particularly in Seillans including the wonderful La Gloire de mon Pere (http://www.lagloiredemonpere.fr). You will love the atmosphere of the tables in the square and if you need a hand choosing, pick the steak. Seillans is also home to the recommended Hotel Des Deux Rocs *http://www.hoteldeuxrocs.com/en/en-restaurant-seillans-canton-de-fayence-83440.html) which also offers a beautiful Al fresco dining option.
