Discover Lemnos with The Discerning Collection

This tranquil, laid back and unhurried island is still relatively undiscovered boasting beautiful beaches, delightful restaurants (that cost a fraction of some of its better known neighbours) and locals who ooze warmth and hospitality. Mount Athos on the Greek mainland sits to the West of the island and on a clear day it is possible to see Athos. Inland it’s mostly rural and the coastline is home to several stunning beaches virtually untouched by tourists with numerous hidden coves and bays. Myrina is the main town and capital, virtually surrounded by sea with a plethora of authentic Greek restaurants selling tasty fresh fish and beaches that any Greek island would be proud of.

Afroditi Villa: Located just 25mins walk from Myrina and 200m from one of the island’s sandy beaches, this charming property with its lush gardens and cleverly designed rooms is an oasis in the sleepy village of Plati. Perfect for couples and families alike, all rooms are tastefully furnished with all necessary amenities and the majority boast sea views. There is a large pool with plenty of space to soak up the sun or alternatively relax in the pretty, flower filled gardens. By far the best run hotel on the island with their service being second to none, it is run by its owners Afroditi & Peter who regularly rustles up an impromptu BBQ for guests.

The Discerning Collection (www.discerningcollection.com; 01784 817 720) offer 7 nights at Afroditi Villa from £875pp staying in a Standard Room on a B&B basis including flights and transfers.

Assos – Off the beaten track Kefalonia

The largest of the Ionian Islands, Kefalonia is home to some dramatic scenery, with mountain roads that wind through sweet-smelling Pine & Cyprus forests down to picturesque harbour villages, spectacular beaches and secluded coves. Lord Byron once quoted whilst residing on Kefalonia “If I am a poet then I owe it to the air of Greece”. With the vast majority of accommodation on the island centered around Fiscardo in the north of the island, where do you head if you’re looking for somewhere slightly off the beaten track? Assos. Unlike many parts of the island, this picturesque village remains unspoilt by tourism with just a handful of cafes and tavernas dotted along the pretty horse-shoe shaped bay.
